Don't believe me? Ask the dishes.

Dear Readers,

Now I know for a fact that the Lion King is for REAL.

Doubt me? Take a look for yourself...

I have been searching for evidence for SO LONG, and now...I can definitely say that I have proof.

Another thing that has been convincing me for a while is this lovely little story....

Christian The Lion

I just love it!

Oh...and while we are on the subject of loving animals...

Sloth.Love.

Bahaha! SHE loves sloths.

Speaking of sloths...I love sloths too. In fact, I went to Panama with the hopes of finding a sloth....no luck...but guess what? I made do with what I had. Me and my friend posed as sloths in the rain forest...eat your heart out!

Well, my chain of boredom has now ended...

Today I am grateful for the wonderful world of media for proving that the Lion King is real. and for giving me some laughs, some cries, and some memories of Panama. (Also where the Bachelor is taking place next week...I will be watching that!)

Thanks for reading!

What do I want to watch?

Yesterday in our Media class, Dr. Coyne posed the question, "what do we WANT to watch in the media?"
The way that I took this is that we are all responsible adults, who are educated in a secular way as well as in a Gospel perspective, and we know what is good for us and what is not. However, it seems to me that I continue to watch shows that may be lax on the values that I try to hold to. Why do I do this? I watch shows like Modern Family, the Bachelor, and Keeping Up with the Kardashians....not the best valued shows on TV, but not the worst either. Bingo.
I think because of the fact that I am not watching the absolute worst shows on Television I feel ok about the shows that I am watching. Isn't that how Satan works anyway? We are lulled into a false sense of security--an "all is well in Zion" feeling, and we are given justifications, which naturally make us feel better about where we are.
However, maybe if I listened a little more I would realize that the real me...the 'deep down inside of me' me, I would realize that there are so many better things that I could be doing with myself than sitting on the couch gawking at other people's drama!
Maybe I should stick to my shows like "Say Yes to the Dress", "Once Upon a Time", "Project Runway" and "Undercover Boss" and use moderation in my TV time and content...

Telling the Future

So I read this awesome news article this week that was printed in 1911. The man who wrote it went to experts in many different fields and asked them for their predictions for 100 years later, and this is what he got:

Predictions of what 2011 would be like from a 1911 newspaper

Some of the predictions are funny, like strawberries being the size of apples because they are grown with electricity. It is interesting though, because I'm sure we could do that, but like my sister mentioned, why? I mean...I think it would be pretty cool to have a huge strawberry...especially if there was chocolate involved.

Another really interesting one to me was that there would be aircraft, but that they would not compete with boats or cars for passenger travel. Another one was that you could travel from New York to Liverpool by ship in only 2 days!

I have to say it is pretty interesting to read articles like this to see how far we have come in the last 100 years! Also, this recreational reading made me feel better about myself than just watching TV!

Cut-Throat Antics...

Am I just crazy like Jenna, or does it seem that the Bachelor is getting more and more dramatic every season??

Today I watched last night's episode and on of the girls, (picture to follow) said that she was NO drama, and that she wanted to have a good night with no 'cat fights'....and then she turned out to be the one trying to stir up fights with other girls!

I am starting to think that this show is all about strategy. I would also say that that is the understatement of the century! I remember in a class once, the teacher pulled me aside and asked me if I would pretend that I thought that the Bachelor was a great way to meet your spouse....it was pretty fun to stir up the class a little. I even got my little kitten-claws out! I guess I understand how these girls do it.

If I MUST pick my favorite girl, I would say that Kaycie B. from Tennessee is my fav. She seems pretty down-to-earth, but really...there are a lot of good actors out there!

My other beef with this show is that they pick the most WILD dates to go on together. It is a PRIME example of the Excitation Transfer Theory. On one of the dates that Ben (the current Bachelor) took Kaycie B on, they went to an old theater where they had the theater to themselves. They sat and talked for a minute, but then something came on the screen. It was videos of them growing up. It was emotional and fun and exciting, and even heart breaking to see Ben watch videos of his Father who passed away 5 years ago. I admit, I got a little teary-eyed. It was cute.

But then, as soon as the movie was over, they were kissing...and talking about this deep connection they had with each other! Keep in mind this is their first date!

If that doesn't convince you, on the episode that I watched today, they had Ben take another girl on a date where they CLIMBED THE SAN FRANCISCO GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE... I can bet you that they asked all the girls what they are most afraid of, and they targetted this girl for that date because she was TERRIFIED of heights. She froze about halfway up, and what did Ben do to cheer her on? He kissed her! and what did she say after that? That they had such a wonderful connection, and she felt like she was going to fall in love with him!

What was really happening was that she was overtaken by emotions and a strong physiological reaction because of the height which she is terrified of that the emotion she was feeling was transferred into a feeling of "love"....

Interesting stuff huh?

Well, I gotta go work on my application to be the next Bachelorette...

JUST KIDDIN! I'm engaged :-)

Thanks for readin'! I hope I didn't offend anyone...I do love the bachelor, just sayin'.

Pat, I would like to buy a vowel

Well, here I sit on the couch watching Wheel of Fortune, one of my favorite game shows of all time. I like to justify watching it by thinking that it is helping me use brain power when I am doing an activity that usually requires none.
I have applied to be on this show, not once, not twice, but THREE times. I am continually told that I will be notified when the 'wheel of fortune bus' is in my area. What is that?!

I just watched someone who I swear is Santa Clause win $45,000.00. Wouldn't it be nice...

This really is what its all about right? We don't have to worry about any nasty comments or crude jokes with good ol' Pat Sajak.

Tweet tweet

While I was looking for ideas for my title of this blog, I found this video about twitter by Ingred Michaelson. It wouldn't upload, so here are the lyrics:

Are you recording me?
I can't hear the snare.
Count me in....TWITTER!
Where do I go when I don't have a friend?
Where do I go at another day's end?
Nobody loves me
Somebody loves me on...TWITTER!
I think I'm a big big loser
then I go to my computer
turn it on then I feel grand
all because of....TWITTER!
Direct message me!
Please please message me!
or at least reply to my...TWITTER!
Tweet tweet tweet tweet
tweet tweet tweet tweet....TWITTER!

I thought it was cute, but then I started thinking about what we talked about in class. We do focus a lot on the negative when it comes to the media. But, as stated in this song, sometimes we feel sad or have a bad day...who is to say that blogging, twitter, facebook, etc. can't make you feel better? I think that these 'online crazes', when used responsibly, can be an effective tool in connecting with other people around the world. If I had a bad day, I can update my status about it, and my sisters in Denver, Pocatello, and Oregon can all know instantly that I need support, and they are there for me.

It's also good for a self esteem boost every now and then, just like Ingred said- I got engaged last week....must...add...picture...

As of right now 164 people 'like' my changed relationship status. After that day a week ago, I got more phone calls, texts, emails, messages on my wall, and 'pokes' than I ever have in my life....probably even collectively. It was pretty fun. I would say my media exposure just on Tuesday about tripled from my regular use!

I am excited for this class and for the experience that I get to have with all of you! Thanks for reading and exposing yourself to my media! :-)
