My Favorite Books...

Growing up, I would have to say that I didn’t read all that much. There was a stage of my life where I did read quite a bit, and it was when I was about 11-13 years of age. I cannot remember what the book was called, but I read a book about a girl coming out into the world when she was growing up, and learning about herself. It was a novel put out by Deseret Book. I even searched the storyline on google, and could not find the name of the book! The story was about a girl who was awkward, shy, and had many “friends” pulling her in different directions. Her first name was “Bo”, and her last name was “Vine”, and she was teased a lot for that. In the book, it is her telling the story about the way she felt when people teased her, how she wanted to respond when she was faced with peer pressure, and how she really responded.

I think the reason why I loved this book so much was because I could relate to the theme of the story, and I was able to understand why she felt the way she did. I also loved the fact that throughout the book, she learned who she was and what she wanted, and that she was really true to herself, and it ended great. What was really cute, is that at the end of the book when she has figured out who she is, and realized that she has great worth, she changes her name to “Dee”…get it? “Dee Vine”.

My favorite book now is a book written by Jeffrey R. Holland called “Created for Greater Things”. It is not so much a novel, as a book with the theme of our lives being led by the Creator of us and the World. It talks about the great worth that each of us have as individuals. One of my favorite quotes from the book: “Sometimes it seems especially difficult to submit to ‘great tribulation’ when we look around and see others seemingly much less obedient who triumph even as we weep. But time is measured only unto man, says Alma, and God has a very good memory.” This quote, and others from the book, hit very close to home in my life.

This book has been such a guide to help me remember what is important in life. It has really helped me to understand and keep in mind that the Lord is there, and He wants me to be happy, and that by living the way He would have me life is the way that I will be most happy.
