This is some media I have found quite interesting today. People take a great curiosity in our religion a lot of the time, because of stances of our church like polygamy, homosexuality, and blacks in the priesthood.
I am grateful that the church came right out to clarify that we do not know the reason that the blacks were denied the Priesthood until 1978, but it is understood that Heavenly Father loves all of his children, and this in no way, was an act of racism.
Click here to read the official statement of the LDS ChurchNow for my opinion: I do not believe that the black members of our church- our beautifully worthy brothers, were held off from the priesthood because of their 'sin' or the sins of their fathers. I have been doing some research on the topic, and it was interesting what a few people mentioned...
"I see many similarities between Paul preaching the gospel to the gentiles and all worthy males receiving the Priesthood in 1978. The gospel was
always intended for the gentiles and the
priesthood for all worthy males. The problem was getting the Jews (and whites in this case) to be ready for such changes." (Emphasis added)

Heavenly Father always intended to give all of his worthy sons the priesthood, but timing was an issue.
He has a reason for everything He does. I do not believe that the church made a mistake. I believe that it is led by honest men who do hold the authority to act in the name of God.
On a related issue, I also believe that this statement from the church applies to the current issues on gay marriage. On the same page above, someone said this:
This simply will not happen. While I have many friends who live a lifestyle similar to the aforementioned, I will never stop loving them, and neither will God. Likewise, the church will never change it's stance on gay marriage, that only a man and a woman have been divinely appointed to marry.
I hope I have not offended anyone in sharing my views. I strive to be honest about my beliefs and allow others that same freedom, while being respectful to everyone. I know that the Lord loves His Children, and He will reveal His truth, which is not relative, to each who earnestly desires.
I don't think you were offensive at all in your comments. It's a shame that this has gotten so blown up in the media, but good that the church has the opportunity to state again it's position on the matter.
